Nestling on the edge of the historic Market (Friday) Town of Helmsley the Carlton Lodge Award Winning 4 Star Guest House operates under a sustainable visitor charter awarded by the North York Moors National Park. Spectacular scenery surrounds Helmsley and the Carlton Lodge, which is ideally placed to explore the Moors, historic York, the east coast resorts of Whitby, Scarborough, Robin Hoods Bay and the Yorkshire Dales.
In an area dedicated to conservation, preservation and recreation, history and heritage are evidenced everywhere from the ancient ministers and abbeys including world famous Rievaulx to classic stately houses like the magnificent Castle Howard.
Rapidly becoming a foodie hotspot Helmsley boasts not only a Michelin Starred restaurant in Harome 3 miles away but also a variety of food shops, and eateries, which provide fresh local produce and wines and cheeses from around the world.
More local shops include unique country emporiums where specialist clothing and interesting gifts are sold at very realistic prices. Add to these a bespoke furniture manufacturer and master upholsterer and it is almost impossible to leave Helmsley without something distinctive and treasured.
The Carlton Lodge was built around 1868 and boasts 8 individual en suite rooms, a bright and cheerful Breakfast Room and a comfortable Lounge. Dinner is available to groups of 10 or more pre-booked guests and exclusive use of the House is available to groups by private arrangement.
The Carlton Lodge has private parking for all guest rooms and visitors are free to come and go at will. Breakfast comprises of local produce, whenever possible, including Wensleydale Dry Cured Bacon and Masham Sausages.
On the edge of the Moors it is possible to be walking on them just 10 minutes after leaving the Carlton Lodge. Routes, maps, walks ranging from 1 to 17 miles are available in our ‘Walking Library’ and the Cleveland Way, the Ebor Way and the Inn Way start/ finish in Helmsley.
