Welcome to Lydford House, a family run Country House with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, within Dartmoor National Park, an area of outstanding natural beauty. Lydford House has been welcoming guests for over 100 years and was built by the celebrated artist William Widgery (1822-1893) and stands in 8 acres of delightful gardens and pastureland in the historic village of Lydford close to the Devon/Cornwall border.
Ideally located for all outdoor pursuits. Brown trout and salmon await you in many of the reservoirs, lakes and nearby rivers or take part in wind surfing, sailing and canoeing at the Meldon reservoir. The Granite Way Cycle Path runs along side Lydford House which has its own private access on to this mainly off-road section of the Devon Coast to Coast trail (rout 27). For a change of scenery Lydford House is equal distance between the North and South Devon/Cornish coasts, taking less than an hour to reach both by car and the market towns of Okehampton and Tavistock are only 7 miles away.
The house itself is surrounded by extensive gardens and grounds where you can stroll and get to know some of our resident horses, hens, cats and goats or sit on the patio next to the ponds and relax to the sound of the waterfalls and enjoy a cream tea. On cooler evenings have a glass of wine or beer around the log fire in our elegant guest lounge and make friends with our friendly collie, Toby and red setter, Gypsy. Our restaurant is located in three distinctive rooms, which includes the conservatory, lending itself to a very cosy and friendly atmosphere and serves mouth watering choices from traditional Italian dishes right through to classics with a modern twist.
